The Journey of a Custom Wig: From Sourcing to Styling

When you purchase a custom wig, you're not just investing in a product - you're investing in a meticulous process. A journey that begins thousands of miles away and involves a host of dedicated professionals, each playing a crucial role in creating your perfect piece.

Sourcing the Hair

Our story starts in the countries where the hair is sourced. China, India, Eastern Europe (especially Ukraine and Russia), and Southeast Asia (including Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar) are major suppliers of human hair for wigs. Naturally, the hair from these regions is typically black or dark brown, with Eastern Europe offering more variety in natural shades, including lighter blondes and brunettes.
This hair is collected in various ways. In China and Southeast Asia, hair is often sourced from hair salons or individuals who sell their hair. In India, many women donate their hair at Hindu temples as part of a religious tradition. Eastern European hair is highly prized for its quality and diverse natural colors, usually collected from individuals who sell their hair.

Transforming the Wig

Once the unprocessed wig arrives at our studio, we begin its transformation into a unique, natural-looking piece. This process starts with washing and conditioning the wig, ensuring it is clean and ready for customization.

Next comes the complex and artistic process of coloring. Coloring hair, whether natural or in a wig, requires a keen understanding of how hair responds to different products and treatments. We use high-quality products such as Redken Shades EQ and Matrix lighteners to achieve the desired shade. However, depending on the original color and condition of the hair, it may resist lightening or not reach the intended level. This is particularly true for very dark or previously colored hair. While we always strive for the perfect shade, maintaining the integrity and health of the hair is paramount to avoid over-processing.

Bleaching the knots is another crucial step in wig customization. Knots are small, imperceptible hair strands that secure the hair to the wig's base. By carefully bleaching these knots, we create a more natural-looking hairline, giving the illusion that the hair is growing directly from the scalp.

Hair from different regions behaves differently during the coloring process. For instance, Brazilian hair, often chosen for its affordability, can present unique challenges. Its texture and color properties can sometimes make it more difficult to lighten and color, but with our expertise and high-quality products, we work diligently to achieve the desired result while preserving the hair quality.

After coloring and bleaching the knots, the wig is washed and conditioned again, which helps seal in the color and ensures the hair remains hydrated and healthy for the next stages of the transformation.

Customizing and Styling the Wig

We then proceed to cut the wig, which could be a simple trim or a more complex layered style, depending on your preferences. Following the cut, we customize the wig. This might involve adjusting the hairline, tweezing the part to make it look more natural, and adding baby hairs for a more realistic appearance.

The final step is styling the wig to your preferences, which could include straightening, curling, adding waves, or any other technique that suits your style.

The Final Product

Once the wig is styled to perfection, it's packaged and dispatched to you, ready to be worn and loved.

Each custom wig is not just a product, but a reflection of a meticulous process that starts with sourcing hair from around the world and ends with a unique piece of art, tailor-made for you. It's a labor of love that represents an investment in your style, confidence, and self-expression.
